Our Response to the 2022 Floods

In 2022, Pakistan faced severe flooding due to unprecedented monsoon rains, leaving many in dire need after losing lives, homes, and livelihoods. Entire villages were submerged, amplifying the urgency for support. Leveraging our flood relief experience, 1toAnother swiftly mobilized to aid victims. We provided essential supplies like food, tents, and housing, established water wells for clean drinking water, distributed blankets, shoes, and sanitation facilities, and conducted numerous medical camps. Our commitment continues in flood-affected areas like Taunsa Sharif, Kot Sabzal, and Fort Munro.

Real Lives, Real Change:

Flood Relief Success Stories

Dhillan Mai

Dhillan Mai, a widow in Kot Sabzal, lost her home and livelihood to heavy rainfall. As the sole provider for her three children, she crafted traditional bangles for income. With her resources washed away, they were left homeless. Recognizing her plight, 1toAnother Society intervened, conducting surveys and hearing her story. They built homes for impoverished widows like Dhillan Mai, ensuring safety and stability. Today, Dhillan and her children reside in a new house, deeply grateful to 1toAnother for transforming their lives.

Abdul Gafoor

Abdul Gafoor is another flood victim who lost his home during the disaster. The 1toAnother relief team found him living in a tent with his wife and two kids. He works as an unskilled laborer on daily wages. After the flooding, which swept away everything, he lost all his savings, livestock, and the wheat he had saved for the whole year. This disrupted his daily work routine, leaving him without income and in a financial crisis. He was helpless and hopeless, unable to rebuild his home. 1toAnother Society helped rebuild his home, and he now happily lives there with his family.

Areas of Intervention

  • Taunsa Sharif

1toAnother has provided relief to families in rural areas near Taunsa, located near District DG Khan. These villages have experienced significant destruction due to extreme flooding. Basti Faizabad, Basti Chitani, and Basti Lashari are among the areas severely affected by the devastation.

  • Kot Sabzal

Kot Sabzal, on the Punjab-Sindh border in Rahim Yar Khan district, was severely hit by heavy monsoon rains. The community, already grappling with extreme poverty, suffered extensive losses including homes, livelihoods, and food sources amidst widespread health challenges.

  • Fort Munro

Fort Munro, a hilly area in DG Khan district of Pakistan, was severely affected by floods. 1toAnother's Relief Team diligently supported flood victims by providing efficient relief items including food packs, blankets, etc. during the crisis, adopting various strategies to aid those affected.

Construction of bathrooms in Kot Sabzal

A survey conducted in Kot Sabzal highlighted the urgent need for bathrooms in the area, as many families still resort to using fields, leading to health concerns such as skin allergies and infections. Privacy is a major concern, especially for women and children who improvise bathing arrangements by creating makeshift shelters with small beds or hanging various sheets around them for modesty. Additionally, villagers mentioned facing strict restrictions from the landlord regarding field use for defecation. Responding promptly, 1toAnother’s flood relief and construction teams built 20 bathrooms to address these pressing needs.
