STORIES OF IMPACT

VMMC

Tirat lives in Kot Sabzal with his family and belongs to the Marwari Tribe, which is considered very poor by caste. Kot Sabzal is a poor village situated on the Punjab-Sindh border, and most people's livelihood is farming. Due to poverty, Tirat did not inherit anything from his ancestors, so he farms on other people’s lands to make a living.

Monsoon rains devastated the agriculture, and daily life became very difficult because of standing water. Tirat was not able to sow crops, leading to a financial crisis.

1toAnother has provided food packs, tents, blankets, shoes, mosquito nets, and hand-pumps, and has conducted several medical camps in this region. During one medical camp, Tirat came for an eye checkup. After examining him, the doctor diagnosed a cataract and suggested surgery, referring him to Victoria Memorial Medical Center. On December 14th, 2022, a group of six from Kot Sabzal, including Tirat, came to VMMC for surgery.

Tirat was successfully operated on and is very thankful to 1toAnother Society and the medical team at VMMC.

BRS

Roop, a determined seventh-grade student, dreams of becoming a doctor despite facing tough conditions at home, including severe financial struggles and poor living standards. Her parents, aware of the valuable education at Bethel Rufin School (BRS), support her studies, appreciating the caring environment the school provides.

BRS has greatly impacted Roop's life, offering a supportive community of teachers, classmates, and staff. This encouragement and sense of belonging help her excel academically and personally, empowering her to overcome her challenging home situation.

Roop also wants to help her siblings achieve their goals, hoping to provide them with similar opportunities for growth. Through her hard work and determination, she aims to create a better future for herself and her family, showing the significant role of education in overcoming hardships.

Her story highlights the profound impact of education in overcoming adversity and achieving dreams, thanks to the support of Bethel Rufin School.

Flood Relief 2022-2023

Sada Mai is an 81-year-old blind flood survivor. She lives in Basti Chatani in District Taunsa with her daughter and grandchildren. Her daughter got married, but her husband left her and the children, along with Sada Mai, and never returned. Sada Mai has been the sole guardian since her husband passed away years ago.

With no male family member old enough to support her financially, the local villagers provide them with food and shelter. However, the monsoon heavy rains and floods severely impacted their livelihood. Sada Mai lost everything in the floodwaters, including a year's worth of grain, clothes, and shoes, which she had either borrowed or received as help.

The flood was a painful time for everyone in the area, as they were all living hand-to-mouth. An eyewitness told the 1toAnother team during the flood survey that the water was 6 feet high. Sada Mai, due to her blindness, couldn't perceive the danger and stood steady holding a bag of clothes when a local young boy ran towards her and rescued her. Sada Mai told us that the shortage of clean drinking water and food made survival very difficult for her and her grandchildren.

1toAnother Society's flood relief team provided them with food rations, blankets, shoes, and warm shawls to protect them from the cold. Our team often visits her whenever we have a chance, as 1toAnother is still working in the area. She is very grateful for the help and support provided by 1toAnother Society with Anglican Aid funds. She now has hope for life again. She and her grandchildren have become much more stable after the disaster. Her daughter started making hand fans with raw materials from crops and some local commodities.
